It takes place on Monday of Cheesefare week, a week before Ash Monday. On the morning of that day, village youths gather, and one of them dresses as a "kalogeros" (monk) with animal skins, blackens his face with soot, and wears bells around his waist. The group wanders around the village houses, teasing and receiving treats. They then head to the village square, accompanied by all residents, where they perform mimetic plowing and sowing. Before this, the "kalogeros" makes the sign of the cross on the land three times, expressing wishes such as "may the village eat, may the people be satisfied, may they not go hungry."
